Eagleson Road Interchange and Castlefrank Road Interchange
Introduction
During the detailed design of the project between Eagleson Road and Highway 7, it has become evident that temporary closures of ramps will be necessary to rehabilitate the Eagleson Road Bridge over Highway 417 and to replace a large culvert under Highway 417 and the southbound to westbound on-ramp. A temporary closure of the Castlefrank Road on-ramp will also be needed to allow repairs to be made to Highway 417 main lanes and the ramp acceleration lane. Construction of the Highway 417 expansion in anticipated to begin in 2011 and is expected to take 3 years. For additional information on the Highway 417 expansion project, please see the Background section of the website.
Eagleson Road Interchange
The construction staging was developed with the objective of minimizing lane closures on the Eagleson Road Bridge, keeping 3 lanes open in each stage (2 lanes SB, 1 lane NB). Ramps on adjacent interchanges will not be closed at the same time. Traffic will be managed through the use of signage including portable variable message signs and signed detours.
Northbound Eagleson to Westbound Highway 417 On-Ramp
This ramp will need to be closed for approximately 14 weeks during the first construction season for rehabilitation of the Eagleson Road Bridge. During this 14 week closure, access from Eagleson Road northbound to Highway 417 westbound will be from Terry Fox Drive via Campeau Drive or Hazeldean Road, as shown in Figure 1.
Southbound Eagleson to Westbound Highway 417 On-Ramp
This ramp will also need to be closed for approximately 12 weeks during the second construction season to allow replacement of the large culvert under Highway 417, the replacement of the ramp acceleration lane, and for the rehabilitation of the Eagleson Road Bridge. During this 12 week closure, access from Eagleson southbound to Highway 417 westbound will be from Terry Fox Drive via Campeau Drive, as shown in Figure 2.
Castlefrank Road Interchange
The eastbound on-ramp at Castlefrank Road will need to be closed for approximately 2 weeks during the third construction season to allow repairs to be made to Highway 417 main lanes and the ramp acceleration lane. Traffic will be managed through the use of signage including portable variable message signs. Access to Highway 417 will be from the Terry Fox Drive and Eagleson Road interchanges.
